Rhodes Hardwood Flooring Products
It is very easy to assume that all hardwood floors are the same.. I mean they all come from a tree right? Their are many many more variables to consider when choosing a wood flooring product including; the grading, the milling, how the floor was finished, uniformity, color consistency, thickness of the wear layer on engineered floors and much more..
Making the selection even more difficult nowadays is all of the different sub par manufacturers popping up every other day, the lumber liquidation companies selling odd lots and poorly or misgraded flooring, and even the big box stores jumping in the mix. Then there is prefinished, unfinished, handscraped, wirebrushed, distressed, domestic woods, engineered flooring, bamboo, french bleed, cork, reclaimed flooring and on and on..
It’s a bit overwhelming isn’t it?
Over the years our team has installed probably 90% or more of all flooring manufactures products and our expertise and years of experience have taught us what to look for in a quality product. We are here to help guide you to the flooring product that fits your homes decor, your lifestyle, and is the highest of quality for your budget.
Choosing the right product is only the first step in having wood flooring installed in your home, but it is also the most important step. Making a rushed or uniformed decision can mean ending up with a product that is not right for you.. And choosing a product only based on pricing can mean your floors could need replaced in years rather than decades with high quality products.

Unfinished Unfinished wood flooring is our specialty. These are the floors that are installed, sanded and finished onsite. This is the way they have been done for centuries. Their are many great benefits to using unfinished flooring with the biggest one being material cost..
Unfinished flooring is typically cheaper to buy than prefinished.. Also, since unfinished floors are sanded onsite this allows many slight height differences and stuff to be sanded out. Unfinished floors also don’t have a micro bevel like factory finished floors, which makes them all one uniform flat surface. We source a good amount of our domestic unfinished flooring direct from the mill; WD Flooring. WD is a Wisconsin based mill that has been managing thousands of acres of forest since the early 1900’s. Plus we like the fact that it’s owner is actually a resident of Minneapolis..
Prefinished – Prefinished floors are the type that are factory finished. The greatest benefit of prefinished flooring is it does not need to be sanded and finished onsite. This usually means that prefinished flooring installations will take a bit less time than unfinished. Some of our preferred prefinished flooring vendors include; Stang-Lund, Appalachian, Mirage, Shamrock, Homerwood, Chelsea Plank, Aacer, Real Wood Floors, UA, Lons Own, Owens and more.. If you are interested in a product or manufacturer not listed, just ask we can get it.
Engineered – Engineered wood floors are those that are made up of multiple plies with a top layer of real wood flooring. Engineered floors can be installed over nearly any subfloor type including; concrete, plywood, and OSB. We work with several engineered flooring manufacturers including; Stang-Lund, Boen, Homerwood, Real Wood Floors, Shamrock and more..
Unfinished Engineered – Unfinished engineered is our favorite style of engineered flooring. This is engineered flooring that is sanded and finished onsite. This makes these engineered floors look and feel like traditional unfinished floors, while still allowing them to be installed over nearly any subfloor surface, including concrete. Our preferred vendors for unfinished engineered hardwood are Shamrock and Real Wood Floors.

Bamboo – Bamboo is one of the most sustainable flooring options possible. Since bamboo grows very fast it makes is a very eco friendly choice. Our preferred vendor of Bamboo flooring is US Floors.
Cork – Cork is a great flooring option that is becoming very popular and they are a very eco friendly flooring option. We offer cork flooring by; Ipocork, QU-Cork, and US Floors.
Wirebrushed – Wirebrushing is basically just as it sounds, it is brushing the wood with a wire brush. This is a very cool effect because the brushing actually removes a very small amount of the woods softer grain and it creates a truly unique textured look. Our favorite option for wirebrushed floors is Stang-Lund.
Handscraped – Handscraped wood flooring is another really cool option for wood floors. Handscraping is how wood floors were evened out and made flat before electricity and modern day sanding machines. These techniques are still being used today to create very cool textured wood floors. Some of our preferred handscraped wood flooring vendors include; Homerwood, Chelsea Plank flooring, & Shamrock.
